Fairy Camp

Grandma Smith put on a fairy camp with her two sisters and my girls were able to attend last weekend. It was a day full of crafts, goodies, wings, and stories.  They all had a great time.

My favorite part was having one of Kurt's sisters and her daughter visit, along with Grandma Smith.  It was so fun to see them and of course the visit went by so quickly!
We managed to squeeze in the normal saturday activities as well - 3 soccer games and a football game.  It was a wild fun day that ended with dinner at Costa Vida.  Thanks so much for all the fun and for the visit.

I'm playing around

I got it in my head that I should enter this fabric design contest.  So I have been playing around.  Here are two of the designs I have come up with.  If you want to help me out, you can go to pinterest and repin them which gives me a 'vote'.  Here is the link to Pinterest for first design

I hope you are playing around with something fun this weekend.

Nurture No. 16

It was an emotional week for me.  I'm still recovering and filling my tank back up.  I feel like I have many big decisions weighing on me right now and I am working hard to study them out and make good choices.  Because so many of them involve my children and their future I have a lot to consider.  Then of course there is the affect on the entire family when any one person has a change as well.  Oh the weights we carry around that is all a part of being a mother.

I made it through the sickness, the tires blowing out, sickness again, and now I'm doing my best to move forward.  It's not my favorite when so many of my weaknesses as a person are laid out before me for all the world to see and I know I have so much to work on.  That's pretty much what this week felt like.  I've listened to a lot of uplifting music, inspired words and General Conference Talks, and am reading another book by Brene Brown.  Good stuff.

It's been so long since I have checked in on my word that I am really doing this for myself so I can re-focus.  Feel free to tune out at this point.

NURTURE

Noticing needs - oh man this is part of what left me feeling so bare and exposed this past week.  I noticed so many needs immediately around me and even more just outside my home that I began to feel like I could never even come close to filling any of them.  And then I circled my thoughts back around the Jesus Christ and his enduring love and I began to think of little things I can say or do that CAN make a difference.

Understanding - I'm such a slow learner.

Read - I finished a book, Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver, which I enjoyed.  I had an epic fail at choosing the worst ever book for book club which I couldn't even finish because it was so boring.  I'm vowing to never do that again.

Tune In - I feel like I am generally doing better here.  I am taking better care of my body.  I am talking more with my children.  I am trying to be available for games and stories and tickles and laughs any time they want them.

Use Time Wisely -  Always a struggle.  I have so many ideas running around in my head every day that I would love to bring to fruition.  Yet I also have little people who need me and count on me.  I finished some quilt blocks I made and mailed them on time for a swap and I'm excited to see what I get back.  I've improved my sewing skills.

Reach out and Show Affection - Part of this for me is a struggle to connect with others in an authentic way.   I've found that this desire I have is a blessing and a huge curse.  I'm working on it.

Energy - I feel better, stronger, and I'm working hard to manage my back/neck pain.

Now that I've reminded myself what my individual goals are I'm just sure I'll do better tomorrow.

I love the light in this photo.  Another Thursday night front yard football game with cousins.  I'm not even kidding when I tell you that this is what Christian looks forward to every week of his life.

I'm Back

So this is catching up on week 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Ha!
As if there is such a thing as 'catching up' when you are a mother!

I've been gone from the computer for a combination of reasons, one of them being that I'm in a bit of a funk.  Pulling out, but that's where I've been.
Other contributing factors:  spring break, busy doing things in real life and staying off the computer in order to remain productive and not spend money, being sick 3 times, soccer season beginning, sick children, awesome weather that makes you go outside and not be near a computer, Clark dental surgery, Clark sick and wheezy following dental surgery, endlessly doing laundry and cleaning the house, Easter egg decorating and celebrating.   I would be lying if I didn't say that changing over from iphoto to aperature (what a joke!) has been most frustrating and has made me NOT want to go through photos on the computer and blog them.

In my defense, I have some awesome photographs from the past 4 weeks, especially on spring break with my children.  We chose to stay in town and plan a fun outing each day with the childrens' input.  We slept in and had pajama day to celebrate Kurt's birthday, we went the the Museum of Nature and Science, we decorated Easter eggs and watched movies with cousins, we went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and we went Go Kart racing.  We stayed up late and played games, we ate yummy food and laughed together.  We started work on our garden and I cleaned several bags out of the basement and found happy new homes for them.  We played in the snow and laughed a lot.  We ate way too much sugar.
This past weekend, being the first weekend in April was the semi-annual general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  This is consistently my favorite weekend twice a year.  I love the messages, the love I feel from God and our church leaders, being with my family, and feeling renewed and encouraged.  This weekend was fantastic.  I'm excited to share with my children some of the new videos for families up on the church website.  You can check them out Here.
I'll conclude with my favorite quote from the weekend, which is from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland
"Hope on.  Journey on.  Fan the flame of your faith."
What is life without hope after all?

I'm happy to report I have been doing some nurturing in my absence and that I am improving my habits.  The resolutionary challenge ended and I'm always glad I participated in it.  Here's to spring and new beginnings, especially in those deep recesses of our hearts that need them.
