Spring?

I just love spring in Colorado, don't you?

We have 4 weeks left of school until the kids are out for the summer - I keep telling them we can do this, 4 more weeks.  (I can do this, right?)  Today one of my daughters said 'Mom are you just joking about that because it's snowing again so it can't be summer in 4 weeks!'  I'm hoping for the best.

I have always wanted photos of my children with snowflakes swirling around them.  Did you know that it is actually extremely difficult to get moving children and falling snowflakes all together in a photo?   Well, it is.   And the effect is somewhat diminished by the fact that there is green grass and a blossoming tree behind the snowflakes.

I really want to start getting my seedlings outdoors so I can get them in the garden and flower beds soon. I guess that really will have to wait until after mothers day.

I'm dreaming of a relaxing weekend.  Some dreams are never realized.

this day we sailed on....  barely....

Amy Butler chair makeover

I really wish I would have taken a 'before' photo of this chair.  It was repulsive - a nasty brown with a very old seat and unrecognizable fabric on it.  What can I say, it was $5!  A little grey paint, gel stain, and this adorable Amy Butler laminated fabric over some new foam and a wooden seat rather than that old burlap weave and -- I LOVE IT!

Flashback

We are having some serious flashbacks over here.  Flashbacks to January.  We have had so much  rain and then snow for the past 48 hours that the kids had school cancelled half way through the day yesterday and I BARELY made it home on the roads.  No one expected this so there were not any snow plows out until the afternoon and the roads have been very treacherous.  Trying to get the kids home from school there were cars stuck all over the roads so it was all driving down one lane in the middle of the road weaving between stuck vehicles.  Once we arrived home we snuggled in hoping to see some sunshine this morning. Alas, we woke up to more snow and it continues.  Happy Spring anyway!  Let's hope my garden seeds I have planted still come up!  The lawn should be green - next time we see it - and I keep sending the kids out to knock snow off the trees and flowers that are budding!

This is what it looked like at 7:30am when the kids left for school - Emma couldn't wait to get out in the snow and check it out!

By noon we had this:
Being home all afternoon allowed us to have some great family time and art time.  My favorite creation by far is this painting by Chrisitan.

Giraffe:

We made peanut butter cookies, cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls, pulled pork and many paintings!
Now it is saturday morning and I am thinking to myself It is 7:30 am, all my kids are in my bed with Kurt and I and we just finished watching The Man From Snowy River.  Who FINISHES watching a movie at 7:30 am on a saturday?  Someday I hope my children learn how to sleep longer...

Thank goodness for mercy

Seriously.  Because I do have days where I want to quit and run away.  Why did I think I could successfully raise 5 children and take care of household management and myself and.... WHAT????
so here is a great quote, in refernce to our mortal acts and the Atonement of Jesus Christ:

"I feel that The Savior will give that punishment which is the very least that our transgression will justify.  I believe that he will bring into his justice all of the infinite love and blessing and mercy and kindness and understanding which he has...
"And on the other hand, I believe that when it comes to making the rewards for our good conduct, he will give us the maximum that it is possible to give, having in mind the offense which we have committed... As Isaiah wrote, if we will return unto the Lord, "he will abundantly pardon."

and here are some pretty flowers.  We had a baby shower/brunch for a friend this past weekend and it was fun.  I just took a 4 inch strofoam ball, cut it about 2/3 and 1/3 and used that to stuff the fresh flowers in.  The 2/3 half was this:

I set it on a little tiny dish which was set on top of a crystal candlestick, and it made a nice centerpiece.  The other 1/3 I used another small bunch of flowers and it came out like this:

It was just set on the buffet table.  I still had 2 small vases of flowers left over to put in various places.  I think that went a long way, for only buying 2 bunches of flowers at costco!

My What Shiny Lips you have...

...Clark!

Ah what to do when your little brother falls asleep in the car?  Emma stopped by Clark on her way out of the car to share some lip gloss.  How kind.   He IS cute no matter what, although I do prefer lip gloss free for a boy.

Emma is breathing life into every area of our home, our laps, and our hearts.  Today she ran in from the back yard, grasped her hands together and pulled them to her chest over her heart and exclaimed
"Mom, I just don't know WHAT to do about my heart!"
Hmmm.  "what do you mean Emma?"
"Well Mom I just don't know what to do about you in my heart!"
With that she turned and ran back outside.  I just don't know what to make of this.

Baby Lost

In a matter of 5 minutes my baby has gone from infant to toddler.  All it took:  his first hair cut.  A part of me is wishing I had waited, yet, how much longer could I go?
I will miss this

Although I still find him completely charming.

Enchanting Discovery

Imagine going out to the planting boxes in your backyard to mix in new soil and prepare the dirt for some spring planting.  Imagine you are digging, with a shovel, beginning to mix the soil together when you see fur, movement, and tiny eyes.  Savanna was very surprised and yelled for Dad until he came over to investigate.

Buried about 5 inches beneath the surface is a small nest with 4 tiny rabbits cuddled together.

There is something about a new born animal small enough to fit in the palm of your hand that is enchanting.

Baby bunnies were the last thought as the children went to bed last night and the first thought they had as they woke this morning.

Even Clark wants to touch them!  We are trying to leave them alone and make sure they stay warm and protected until they grow a bit more and hop away to permanent homes.    Until then, we have a small piece of wonder and magic living in our back yard.

Because little things matter

And These are some faces and times I dont' want to ever forget.  Like Emma going into Pottery Barn Kids with me today - sitting herself down in the small adirondack chair, leaning her head back, carefully placing her arms on the arm rests, putting her feet up and taking a deep breath.  I love it.  And I love this cute face.   Isn't she charming?  And I sometimes think I should really start taking Clark's pacifier away... nah.  His life has been way to rough and at 3 am I like that pacifier more than he does.  To add to that, the poor child has 11 teeth, yes ELEVEN all coming in right now.  I can see 11, but not one is all the way in yet.  Ouch.  So the pacifier stays for now!

Easter weekend.

I sure hope you enjoyed your Easter.  I spent some of the weekend in sheer frustration and by the time I realized I needed to repent and change I had already missed some lovely things.  I am so thankful that I am ABLE to repent and move forward because of the atonement of my Savior, Jesus Christ.  I realized in some ways just how much I need him.  For daily life.  This realization comes again and again and I still need reminding.  So here's to Spring.  And putting all my eggs into one basket:  the basket called hope.

I am so very blessed.  And thankful for the reminder.

Spring Decorating + Peeps Wreath

Spring decor around my house is pretty simple this year.  I like it.
I think everyone should have a peeps wreath!  It is so bright and cheery, inexpensive and easy.

I just hot glued ribbon around a styrofoam wreath form or twig one (from the dollar store), hotglued the peeps on and was done!  This is much easier to do if you let your peeps sit out in an opened package for a day or more so they are good and stale!

Try it!
Happy Easter.
